UNDOCUMENTED LAYWER

Cesar Adrian Vargas made history this year when a New York court paved the way for him to become the first undocumented immigrant to practice law in the state. Caesar works at the heart the DREAMer movement, the most-vigorous pro-immigrant push by the advocacy communities to date. Nationwide and on Capitol Hill, Cesar and his organization, Dream Action Coalition, have taken the gloves off in the policy battle for a better immigration policy

7 things you need to know about the  Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM ACT)

"Don't  I already have the DREAM ACT?!?!?"" DACA?!! Work Permit?!?!" NOPE!  The DREAM Act (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors) is a bipartisan legislative proposal that was first introduced in the Senate on August 1, 2001 but has failed to pass multiple times, most recently in 2010. The DREAM ACT 2017 would be signed into Law, Unlike DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals),that can be taken away at anytime  is an executive order passed by President Obama on June 15, 2012 that allowed certain "DREAMers" temporary (Key word Temporary) relief against deportation and a 2 year work permit (Did we mention TEMPORARY?) with no pathway to citizenship.

What can the "New Version of the DREAM Act" include? It is hard to say at this point but we can compare to the 2010 DREAM ACT.     Pathway to ( CONDITIONAL )  lawful permanent resident (Green Card) status  if you have been physically present in the United States for at least five years and were younger than 16 when they first entered the country (sound familiar?)

Most importantly, the Undocumented Movement has  been fighting for the DREAM ACT since 2001. It has been a hard long fight with countless campaigns, civil disobedience, and pushing and holding accountable politicians. The Undocumented Activist movement was not led by one organization or person, it was led by countless groups and allies. If we want the DREAM ACT 2017 to include a fair, just and inclusive legislation everyone must do their part. Remember the DREAM ACT will not include all 11 million undocumented immigrants. The fight still continues. Shout out to all the communities who have pushed and will continue to push the fight. En la Lucha!
